DESCRIPTION OF ELECTIVE: This is an office based elective where the student will work primarily with Dr. Singh at locations in Cumming, Johns Creek and Atlanta. The student will be exposed to a wide range of commonly seen cardiac conditions.Emphasis will be on history taking, auscultation skills, ECG reading and management plans.
Students will have exposure to all non invasive and invasive cardiac diagnostic tests and also therapeutic interventions such as PCI and device implants. Students will have the opportunity to observe in hospital care and emergency room management. No call is required but reading around interesting cases is encouraged.
Students and fellows will also have an opportunity to see a busy clinical research program and potentially get involved in long term research projects. Electives are offered for 2-6 weeks. Hospital access usually requires 3-4 months processing time.
ABOUT ATLANTA HEART SPECIALISTS: This is an independent 15 person private practice group that works out of 7 offices and 4 hospital systems ( Dekalb Medical, Northside Forsyth, Emory Johns Creek and Emory at St. Joseph’s). The emphasis is on preventive care but we offer PCI, EPS and advanced vascular imaging. In addition it houses one of the nation’s busiest clinical trials research program.
ABOUT DR. SINGH: Dr. Singh graduated in the top ten of his class from Dalhousie Medical School in Halifax Nova Scotia and went on to complete a residency and cardiology fellowship at the University of Toronto. He practiced for 8 year in Toronto at Rouge Valley Health System- Centenary site. He has previously been director of Scarborough Cardiology Research, cofounder of the GTACC organization, and also past National Secretary of the Canadian Cardiovascular Society.
He moved to Atlanta in 2002. He was a partner with Northside Cardiology PC and recently joined with Atlanta Heart Specialists, LLC, where he is Director of Clinical Research. He has been a Lecturer at the University of Toronto and Clinical Assistant Professor at Emory University . Dr. Singh is currently a councilor on the Georgia Chapter, American College of Cardiology board.
Dr. Singh is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Singh has been a site investigator in over 80 national and international trials. He actively designs and conducts independent research. He has published extensively on topics ranging from acute coronary syndromes, health outcomes, disparities in access to care and South Asian heart disease. Since 2007 he has been on the Marquis Who’s Who in Medicine publication list. In 2011 Dr Singh was awarded the GA Chapter American College of Cardiology Distinguished Service Award.
